As the scandal surrounding Congressman Anthony Weiner intensified this past week, Weiner and his wife, Huma Abedin, quietly took their New York co-op apartment off the exclusive Forest Hills Gardens real estate market. The couple had listed the Queens apartment with Madeleine Realty for $449,000.
According to this timeline, the first report of Weiner’s salacious online behavior occurred on May 28; the for-sale listing went on the market on May 21 and was removed on May 31.
Democratic Representative Anthony Weiner has held the position as New York’s 9th District Congressman since 1999 when he replaced Charles Schumer who was elected to the Senate. Weiner married Abedin, an aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in the summer of 2010. According to several news reports, Abedin is pregnant.
Currently, Abedin is traveling through the Middle East with Clinton while her husband is facing calls from fellow Democrats for his resignation after he admitted on Monday to sending graphic photos and messages to six different women, doing an about-face from his earlier testimony that his Twitter account had been hacked.
Weiner’s apartment on the tree-lined street in Forest Hills Garden area of New York seems a million miles away from the hubbub surrounding Weiner and his online activity.
The 2-bedroom, 2.5-bath cooperative has 850 square feet of living space. The apartment building was built in 1939 and features hardwood floors and crown molding. The kitchen has been updated with stainless steel appliances and new cabinetry.
Described as a “charming and elegant” apartment, the property has a private tree-lined yard and laundry on site.
According to Curbed NY, Weiner’s co-op has become part of the scandal — some of the photos he sent to the women were taken at this home.
