Actress Janet Leigh is notable for many things: She was married to actor Tony Curtis (1951–1962); her daughters are actresses Jamie Lee Curtis and Kelly Curtis and her ill-fated role as Marion Crane in Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller “Psycho” made the ordinary act of taking a shower a terrifying experience (cue violin shower screech). Poor Marion: She checked into Bates Motel, but she never checked out.
Leigh died in 2004 at age 77 and the home she once owned in Beverly Hills is now for sale for $4.5 million. Curbed LA playfully posed a cutout of Leigh in the bathtub — not shower, and if you wonder why, it’s because Leigh reportedly did not take showers again — at least for a while.
Leigh’s former home hit the Beverly Hills real estate market just a few days ago and is wonderfully decorated in black and white with splashes of vivid color, including a pink baby grand piano, vivid red on the walls in the dining room, and movable color splashes throughout such as a pink zebra-pattern rug in the bathroom. Also notable are the skull and cross-bone designs on the pillows throughout the house, but somehow it all works (see photos below).
The contemporary home is gated and private and perched on a hill offering views of the area. It has 4,432 square feet and includes 4 beds and 4.5 bathrooms. The master bedroom has dual bathrooms, a fireplace and balcony. The open living room features soaring ceilings with a two-sided fireplace that also opens to a den. Great outdoor living spaces include a kitchen and cabana style deck area off living room, which flows out to the pool and tennis court.
And yes, the home does have a shower.
